I am afraid to drink coffee. Monday morning's headache has struck fear and trepidation into my heart. A headache like that is just not worth the little bit of pleasure that comes with a cup of sweet vanilla coffee. I am weaning myself off the caffeine with Excederin (this morning I bit one in half) and think I just may go caffeine free until I forget what one of those headaches feels like. I'll have to find a different warm winter time drink, maybe International Foods Vanilla Cream or hot apple cider. We once had a friend who drank hot water but I'm not sure I can do that. I should probably check my cupboard for herbal tea. Maybe I still have some.
That's strange that caffiene causes your migranes, but keeps mine away. I got at least a migrane a month, sometimes 2, before discovering that some migrane medications have caffiene in them. I didn't enjoy the coffee at first, but now I like it! Tea is yummy too, or how about a cup of hot chocolate!
ReplyDeleteI didn't say caffeine caused my migranes (I think it's more of a hormonal thing) but is a well known fact that caffeine has an effect on headaches and that's why they add it to headache medicine. But it's also well known that if you stop drinking coffee too fast you will end up with an excruciating headache. I guess I don't tolerate caffeine very well. I only drink about two cups a day.
ReplyDeletethey did a study on caffeine on our public station, they did a ratio of one cup for a human and redused it down to spider size.
ReplyDeletethey gave this poor spider one , then two , then up to three cups a day for a week. and his web became more eratic as he uped his caffeine level..... mmmmm makes one think about it eh?
Yeah, it does make you think. I'm really kinda sad cause I normally so enjoy my afternoon cup of coffee. It just isn't the same right now.
ReplyDeleteI definitely talk too much when I drink coffee. My poor 1st patient of the morning....I can just hear them telling their friends, "My Hygienist never shuts up!"
ReplyDeleteI still miss diet coke! And I've been off it for quite sometime now.... Lemon water is okay - so long as there is LOTS of lemon AND lots of ice and it MUST be drunk (is that grammatically correct?) with a FAT straw! Brett buys a roll of tubing from Lowes for me that works GREAT! :)
ReplyDeleteIs Shelly kidding? That's taking it a little too far ;)
ReplyDeleteI can't drink coffe anymore... Not even one cup. The caffiene withdrawal is too much for my little head to handle. So I stopped drinking it all together. :(
You poor dear! You must take after your mother. I'm still searching for alternatives...
ReplyDeleteAnd, I think she just might be serious, Shelly that is. She does love a fat straw. I prefer the thin ones.
How about hot apple cider. You can get a mix. Hot chocolate still has some caffeine. There are lots of herbal teas that aren't just the same blah flavors these days.
ReplyDeletethis is all such an interesting discussion. I get a headache if i don't have my coffee, but not that bad. Just a small dull one. I love the sensation of it going away when I drink my coffee... How sick is that?!
A pharmacist friend of mine told me that caffeine actually stays in your system for 24 hours or more and can cause sleeping difficulties, even if you drink it in the morning. He recommends taking tylenol routinely for a couple of days while you quite your coffee, to help stave off the headache that you will have while you are adjusting.
A little caffeine is okay. I have been drinking regular tea. I like that better than most herbals and I have had some hot chocolate and also hot apple cider.
