Living in the Rain Forest

Warm, humid, overcast, the perfect kind of day for straightening up about the house, reading a book, or taking a nap. It isn't raining but the possibility lingers as the wind picks up and the clouds hang low like a thick blanket. A fine mist blows through heavy air.

I cleaned the kitchen this morning but have yet to run the vacuum cleaner. In this weather everything feels slightly sticky and my sugar clumps into one big lump in the bowl. Cereal and crackers get soft in the box. I pack them into zipper top bags to keep out the dampness.

I recall camping in this weather as a little girl. At night I crawled into a slightly moist sleeping bag in a rather damp camper. Often the sun would arrive bright and strong the following morning burning off the condensation of the previous day and drying out our soggy surroundings.

Today it feels like I live in the rain forest. The windows are open and the birds are happy. My garden is happy too.

  11. I'm going to put this here Martha..as I attempted to put one on Tori and Johnnys but it would not go..tried to write on Bethany's and Kimberlys too but they would not let me...so..I am going to leave it here for you to splain...to them..here it is...about the paddle boat thang...
paddle boats...this is a whole story...a family story of a man who invented the paddle boat...but forgot to patent the idea...so lost..
My father..your great grandfather...worked at a aircraft factory..he and his father before him also where inventors..(his dad (a millionaire who shared not a dime with his family)invented the burglar alarm system in Canada...anyway..my father worked with sea planes..that had pontoons..and we had a pond beside our house (this is another story too)where he tested boats he fixd..and eventually invented a paddle boat..using..two pontoons..and a large paddle like the ones (only smaller)on those missisipi boats..and a bike chain and bike peddles..eventually he covered the paddle with a dome he made..and gramaGail(my friend since we where babies and still is)used to paddle the boat all around the pond..that was in the 1940s...then someone from Niagara falls saw these boats and asked my dad to make some for them..he did..and they took the idea..and copied it and made a fortune..voila...the paddle boats..I have more stories...later..poor my family and gramanita stories...I love you all and wish you all a fantastic summer...I tried to write on your moms blog too..but they would not let me either...sooo...hey...whatchagonado..love and hugs...gramanita

  12. I'm so glad that you allow anonymous comments so that GramaNita could share her story here. I'll think of your family whenever I see paddle boats now. I hope she will write down more family stories for Josh and future generations.
