Y is for Yogurt

Y is for Yogurt.

When I was a child my mother did not buy yogurt. She did not like yogurt. The first time I ever saw yogurt was when I was in junior high and they were selling it in the cafeteria. I ate it with caution and decided it was pretty good stuff. Once in a while mom would buy me some, but she never ate it herself.

After my father passed away and my son and his wife moved in with her, she started eating yogurt. Now she wants yogurt every day. If I say, "Mom, are you hungry?" She says, "Oh, I'll just take a yogurt." I'm kind of relieved she doesn't like vanilla. It's my favorite.

  4. Let me the odd one out here -- I love yogurt and prefer plain yogurt. I learned of yogurt in the late 1960's when we used to make our own. I don't know if it was even in the stores then. Anyone know for sure?

  6. Martha, I agree with you mom's friend wholeheartedly! Have you ever tried a Turkish cucumber soup? It is a great summer treat.

  9. Yogurt has been a staple of my diet for years. For many of those years, I made my own.
Now that I've discovered Greek yogurt, however, I'm hooked on it.
I've never tried cucumber soup, but I love thin cucumber slices in plain yogurt.
A yummy choice for the letter Y, Martha.

  10. too funny!
My parents only purchased yogurt for us once or twice. I don't think they were all that familiar with it themselves. I remember picking one out - blueberry - and then being disappointed at home. I think I was expecting ice cream. Fast forward to now and I not only give my kids yogurt all the time - I MAKE IT! :) It isn't the same as the stores. It isn't as sweet b/c I don't add sugar. But the kids just love it.

  11. I wonder what made your mom change her mind to suddenly decide and eat yogurt? Anyway, yogurt is good for our body. Though it may not look like it’s nutritional, you have to believe that it has lots of health benefits. Y is for YUMMY!
