It looks like my day will be full of ... hmmm ... how to say this and make it sound fun ... excitement. With four small children and an old grandma, there is certain to be something to laugh about today. The children are always full of wild ideas and my mom is always looking to settle them down. Yesterday we moved the little couch back across the middle of the living room so the area where they play isn't quite so visible from her vantage point by the fire. She has a bit of OCD when it comes to toys and their pieces. Oy!
Today is Thursday. I don't know if Kristina has internet access, but I like her 3X Thursday game. Blogging isn't quite as much fun if it doesn't generate conversation/interaction and this always seems like a good game to inspire that kind of thing. I hope she doesn't mind if I commandeer the game every once in a while.
1. What's in your purse?
2. Do you have a junk drawer and what do you keep in it?
3. Do you collect "fire hazards" on flat surfaces like coffee tables and counter tops?
Aside from the usual "purse stuff", I have a tendency to collect old gum wrappers, in the bottom of my purse, along with expired coupons and old bills. Once I take out all the junk, it's usually much lighter and easier to carry. I have a junk drawer but it's so full of whatnots that I need to find a new one for the little stuff I can't throw out but still need to hang onto. :0) And, unfortunately, flat surfaces around here tend to collect stuff. I clear them off only to pile them high again and again. *sigh*

1. I stopped carrying a purse a couple of months ago, it was collecting junk and hurt my shoulder every time I wore it. Now I carry a clutch...which holds my ID's, credit cards, a check or two, paint swatches, and my phone...and occasionally some cash when I have some.
ReplyDelete2. We have a few junk drawers in our house. One is always in the kitchen that holds pens, menus, chip clips, batteries, etc. One in my bedroom that just holds my misc personal items...massive amounts of chapstick, rubber bands that never make it back to the bathroom, my cameras... And then a junk dresser and junk under the bed and junk in the closet...my husband is a bit of a hoarder. Moving is helping cut back on that, but it's still gives him more space to collect stuff. He doesn't know it, but some of that junk just "disappears" sometimes when he's not looking ;-)
3. The one thing that always seems to collect on the counter tops is paperwork that needs to be filed. I cannot seem to get that under control. It would be better if those medical bills just stopped coming!
We have a few hundred junk drawers, or so it seems. Honestly, we probably aren't doing too bad, depending on how you look at it. Most days we are still able to walk for room to room without having to climb over mountains or trip over things. Oh wait, those were children I was tripping over.

Good Morning, I am guilty of piling my desktop full of things I don't feel like filing away! We have a junk drawer full of scissors, matches, small hammer, thumb tacks, and picture hanging supplies. My purse....I am trying to go to just a clutch, but I don't even have room for my chap stick!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't decide whether I need a smaller purse or a bigger one. :0)
DeleteOh boy, my organization to a fault will come into play.
ReplyDelete1. I always have a big purse with zippers and pockets. The purse I'm using now...four pockets outside..camera, cell phone, keys, hearing aid batteries, gum, etc. Inside..the normal stuff. OK I do find a used Kleenex or candy wrapper in the bottem.
2. I don't have a junk drawer but my husband has a JUNK garage. Does that count?
3. With just the two of us, and no children, the coffee table stay with fish bowl, mag. candle. But my computer desk is the challenge...and won't stay neat.
A JUNK garage definite counts. We have junk barns and my closet is full of various and sundry items too. One day, maybe, things will settle into not piling the stuff we don't know what to do with. I keep trying, but we all keep failing to keep those surfaces clear.
Delete1. What's not in my purse? ha.
ReplyDelete2. No junk drawer, unless you count my kitchen desk drawer that holds pens/pencils/scissors/tape/paperclips. but it has those organizer compartments, so it's neat at least.
3. There is a tray on the coffee table with a stack of magazines. No junk or papers.
yes, I'm a little ocd....except for my purse. ha..but I do clean it out every couple of weeks. Once all the tissues are thrown away, I can see what's in there!
Seven children and a passel of kids to babysit has squeezed a lot of my OCD tendencies out. There are plenty of them left but they're having a struggle to survive.
Deletehaha
1. Wallet....lip gloss....reading glasses....tiny emery board....empty lozenge wrappers...receipts...
ReplyDelete2. junk!

ReplyDelete"Blogging isn't quite as much fun if it doesn't generate conversation/interaction"
1) I do not have a purse but my wife often refers to my slingpack as one.
2) I have several junk drawers. A community one and a personal one. Mainly places to throw things we do not know what to do with.
3) Our kitchen table and our island both seem to accumulate all sorts of "stuff". :)
"Things we don't know what to do with" like shoelaces, stray batteries, nuts and bolts, buttons rubber bands, pens and pencils, thumb tacks, safety pins, lost puzzle pieces, and marbles.
Delete1. My purse is the most unorganized item in my life - it is full of empty wrappers, receipts, scraps of paper with my shopping lists on them - It typically only gets cleaned out once a month.
ReplyDelete2. We have one junk drawer that has maybe a dozen items in it - things I just haven't gotten around to disposing of.
3. I have a basket that all my devotionals, journals, Children's ministry to do tasks sit in - it becomes very heavy and cluttered - when I clean it out I discover things I forgot to do. On my bench(coffee table) my tray gets full of pieces of paper and my books are piled up - no room to put my feet up on it anymore.
Brenda, I have tried baskets too but the junk just keeps crawling out. I often think if I lived alone I would be organized, but I haven't been altogether convincing. I'd need at least one place to collect junk.
DeleteJunk drawer? As in SINGULAR? ha. I actually organized two of my Junk Drawers a few months back...baggied up the Box Tops that the kids collect for school, the double A batteries that just might work, the rubber bands, paper clips, markers and pens and crayons and thumbtacks, barrettes and bobby pins...I threw away all the expired coupons and odd marker tops and and and. And it felt amazing! Don't ask what they look like now though....nothing around here STAYS organized. Oh my purse...I keep lots of things in there Just In Case. If anyone gets a headache, a tummy ache, sudden diarrhea, cuts their finger, or unexpectedly gets their monthly, I am prepared! I have gum and extra gum for my teenagers who always need gum, I have a hairbrush, and at least two protein bars, sometimes a few apples too, and always a baggie of almonds. Coupons and receipts and chapstick....it is one heavy purse.
ReplyDeleteSurfaces in the house: the top of the microwave is the Junk Pile, stuff I might need so don't touch it. I try to keep the other surfaces cleaned off, key word being, "try". The table next to my chair has a Junk Basket....
Della, I have several (I almost wrote "drunk") junk drawers. It's nigh unto impossible not to collect junk with a houseful of people. Somebody's always looking for something. Besides, it keeps the house neat! Ha! At least until the drawers are full.
