More About Martha... (Are you sick of it yet?)

Now Jesus loved Martha... John 11:5a
Of course, one could insert any name here and the verse would hold true, but I love, love, love the fact that it actually says "Martha". Why wouldn't I?
I am blessed that God took the time to reassure all of us, especially women, of Jesus' love for Martha, just in case we see only His gentle rebuke, after all Mary seems to steal so much of the story. She not only sat at His feet and chose "the better part", but it was this Mary who anointed Jesus feet with costly oil and wiped them with the hair of her head (Jn 12:3). Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. This is one verse where Mary's name isn't even mentioned.
As I juggle my responsibilities in life, there will be times when I fail. There will be times of doubt and discouragement, times of sadness and sorrow, and times of complete and utter exhaustion. In those times Jesus remains, calling us to cast every burden upon Him, to let Him help us carry the load, and to remember that He loves us.
(And, no, I didn't drop Josh. I wanted a picture with my two grandsons and he was determined to get away. He had things to do!)

  1. I love the picture! Josh has that devious little smile on his face as he's trying to escape your grasp.

  4. Thanks, Rachel! I caught him at just the right moment, I guess. This is about as good as it gets. Hopefully I'll have a chance to try again in better lighting.

  6. Isn't he just like an active little boy? That look on his face says "I'm trying to escape".
