Mr. McGregor's Garden

Now that my parents are older their little house and yard are quieter. In the summer time they like to feed the birds and watch the wildlife in their backyard. Sometimes they see squirrels and chipmunks and sometimes there is a bunny or two hopping around out there. Dad likes to leave apple peels for the rabbits to eat.

Last summer Dad planted a small garden. He wasn't too happy with last year's results but decided to try again this year anyway. His garden boxes are looking nice and healthy and now that things are growing, his rabbit friends have decided to cash in on the profits. They like young, tender bean sprouts and fresh beet greens, so Dad has put up a scarecrow in an attempt to discourage them from disturbing his garden. It made me smile because that scarecrow looks just a little bit like Dad with that jacket and hat.

  3. I don't know, Judi. He said he wanted pie plates, the aluminum kind that make noise, but I guess a crazy scarecrow waving hankies in the night would be pretty scary. It'll keep me out of the green beans!
