I'm not sure what kind of pollens are in the air right now. It's been so long since I was tested that I've long since lost the sheet listing the culprits that give me grief. All I recall is that I was allergic to the spring pollens, the summer pollens, and the fall pollens. Lucky for me there are no winter pollens...
For several years I received allergy injections which did wonders for my symptoms. Now I do my best to treat them myself and tough it out. This is my bad time of year. I sneeze incessantly and go through dozens of Kleenex each day. I feel like a regular "snot machine". I am drinking my way through my second pot of green tea today in hopes of liquefying that which fills my sinus cavities.
The cottonwood trees are in full "bloom", dropping their precious fuzz which then floats effortlessly through the air landing on roadsides, collecting in store entrances, and making it's way through my open car windows. With it's disappearance will come a lessening of my symptoms and welcome relief. Kleenex and Scotties will see a dramatic reduction in sales and I will breathe much easier at night.

I am so far behind in reading blogs! I think this is the worst allergy year in a long time.
ReplyDeleteI love your artwork, Martha! I can't believe you did that with your own hands.
Your family is beautiful. I love the group shots. What a treasure. I can't believe how fast kids grow up. ♥
Oh Martha, I am allergic to many things also. House dust, molds, and all the outdoor seasons. Many foods, what a hassle!
ReplyDeleteYou have my sympathy, although yours sound much worse than mine.
We have had a whole house air filter for 40 years now and I spend most of my time inside. I don't think you are an inside girl!
My guess is you would rather hassle the allergens than miss the great outdoors.
As long as it's warm I'd rather be outside. I even enjoy working in the garden and pulling weeds, although I don't enjoy the results...
ReplyDeleteI know so many people with allergies; they really suffer.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping all the fuzz in the air does a quick disappearing act, and that your symptoms alleviate and disappear.
It has been a bad year, even I, the great nonallergic one, has had an episode. But, the cool part, when we where in eastern Or. nada, I mean not a sniffle, sneeze, wheeze for me. Come check out the trip. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Martha, we battle allergies on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, too. I'm having a little success with a "Himalayan Salt Inhaler." Of course, it could just be in my head! The old placebo effect.
ReplyDeleteI read your poem "For Nathan" on the Mooney's site and I thought it was beautiful. I have a Nathan, too, a late-in-life surprise baby who has been a great blessing to our family despite some hardships.
You have a beautiful family and lovely site! Blessings, Karen
Hi Karen, thank you. Yesterday was my Nathan's 19th birthday. I can't believe so much time has gone by already...
ReplyDeleteNow I'm feeling sorry for Kleenex and Scotties for the anticipated loss of sales coming up for them. :o)
ReplyDeleteOh, I feel for you with the allergies!! I have a multitude of them, along with asthma, which was pretty bad when I was young. I had the shots through high school, and then again a few years ago. It does help, but I mainly feel like I'm in a fog and tired from them most of the time, and I take a couple of over the counter things every day. It's hard when you love to do things like you do outdoors!! I don't do much outdoors, mainly talk on the phone and swim, and then there's that dust that always appears on every surface IN the house!! Kleenex and Scotties (who can afford those Puffs??).. when I was younger, we only had toilet paper, so I took to using my baby sister's (Della) and brother's so so soft cloth diapers, much easier on the nose. I've been tempted to use the ones I've saved from my own babies, but now that I'm older, I'm thinking it wouldn't be too sanitary!! Remember hankies? Are they still around?
ReplyDeleteWell, perhaps all this rain will wash some of the pollen away? Sometimes I try to breathe as much of a boiling kettle that I can, and that helps, too. Well, at least in Heaven, the air will be pure!!!
My daddy always had a nice big, red or blue bandanna type hankie in his pocket when I was a little girl. I never thought about blowing my nose in a cloth diaper... I'm sure Della didn't mind too much. My problem with the medicines is that when I'm feeling good I have a tendency to forget to take them.
