Who Is This Jesus?

Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.
John 5:39-40

No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, 'And they shall all be taught by God.' Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.
John 6:44-45

I have been told that Jesus is not God. I've been told I should not pray to Him. But I believe that He is God. I believe that God loved me so much that He clothed His Word in human flesh and came down to earth to die in my place and offer me salvation. How can I keep from praising Him? How could I not fall on my knees and worship Him? How can I stop myself from praying that my friends and family will come to know forgiveness and salvation?

  2. Greetings Martha

    You said:
But I believe that He is God. I believe that God loved me so much that He clothed His Word in human flesh and came down to earth to die in my place and offer me salvation.

I understand that this is what you believe however:

GOD clothing His word in human flesh doesn't make Jesus, GOD.
    Rather, it makes him,
    GOD's word made flesh!
    There is a difference.
    Scripture doesn't say
    GOD was made flesh
but rather GOD's word was made flesh.

However, Jesus wasn't just a body in which GOD's word dwelt,
rather GOD's word became embodied in a human being, a person,
    namely, Jesus of Nazareth,
    the Messiah,
the Son of the ONE GOD,
    [Matt 16.16]
    the Son of the Father.
    [2 John 3]

The ONE GOD therefore was in Christ (not Himself Christ!) reconciling the world unto Himself.
    [2 Cor 5.19]

    Besides GOD Almighty CANNOT DIE!
    That's what immortality means!
And GOD alone inherently possesses immortality.
    [1 Tim 6.16]
    Hence GOD cannot die.
Instead, GOD gave us a Lamb for our sins,
and that Lamb was His own human Son, Jesus!
    [John 1.29, 3.16, 1 John 4.10,14]

Also you will notice in the NT that the apostles did not pray to Jesus rather they prayed to the ONE GOD, that He would do wonders in the name of His
    holy servant Jesus
    [Acts 4.30,27 NASB.
    Compare Acts 3.13,26. NASB]

That's who Jesus was to them:
    GOD's servant;
in comparison to the ONE GOD, the Father, who Jesus identified
    as the only true GOD!
    [John 17.3]

Paul summed it up like this:
(1 Tim 2:5) For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men,
    the man Christ Jesus;

Who did Paul fall on his knees too?
(Eph 3:14) For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

And who did the early church consider to be their GOD?
(1 Cor 8:4) ... that there is none other God but one.
(1 Cor 8:6) But to us there is but one God, the Father, ...
    (Compare John 20.17)

And who did our Lord Jesus teach us to worship?
(John 4:23-24) But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
    (Compare: Rev. 19.10, 22.9)

  3. Hi Adam, Thank you for your input. Here are some more verses for you to research.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

And Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!"
Jesus said to him, "Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed [are] those who have not seen and [yet] have believed." John 20:28-29

Almighty God can not die, but "all the fullness of the Godhead bodily" Col. 2:9was able to make that ultimate sacrifice on our behalf.

And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to [the point of] death, even the death of the cross. Phil. 2:8
