I was out cleaning some trash out of the drainage ditch on Monday and saw this red winged black bird guarding his territory. He has been hanging around for the past several summers often sitting on a cattail. Sometimes the patches on his wings are brilliant and easy to see and other times I have to look a little closer in order to spot them. I never realized that only the males are black with red and yellow on their wings. The females are brown with white streaks. Little Cat finds the wild life down by the ditch rather interesting also. She came down to watch and visit for a bit. Maybe she was hoping to catch a frog or a nice fat mole.
We had our meeting with the town drainage committee on Monday night and they will be looking into our drainage problem a little more closely to see if they can determine what should be done. We are hoping for a good solution that won't cost us too much money. In the meantime the toads continue to inhabit the puddle.
Is the town drainage committe going scuba diving in the puddle to get a "closer look at the problem?" :o) Could you rezone it for a toad vacation resort, like Club Med?
ReplyDeleteLol! Gmjlm2, you are too funny! Do they know how large of an area the puddle covers, because I know that now it is much smaller since being pumped?
ReplyDeleteWe had photos and they want to check out the drainage ditch and the swamp on the east side of our property too.
ReplyDeleteYou have lots of very neat photos of Teal Lake!
ReplyDeleteI hope they don't just file it away and forget it.
ReplyDeleteYour cat looks quite content to be watching the wildlife.
ReplyDeleteHope all goes well with the committee.
