... because that's how life is put together.
* My sweet Hannah is spending the week in Minnesota with her brother, sis in law, and adorable newly turned two years old nephew. We took her to the airport early Sunday morning and off she flew. It's been weird going to bed at night without having her walk in the back door, or at least hearing her come in shortly after we climb into bed. She will return this coming Sunday night.
* Yesterday, as I sat in the common area with my friend, I took a few minutes, while she was quiet and settled, to visit with another couple of residents who were feeling unsettled. As I talked with (M)Ike, "May" came in, smile on her face, hands clasped down low in front of her. She looked happy. She smiled again as she looked at me and then at (M)Ike and said, "I'd like to kick him right in the a--." I was a little shocked as the sweetness in her voice and the smile on her face didn't at all match the words coming out of her mouth. She continued to look at him with adoration and said, "He's such a sweet man." (Ah yes, it's an interesting place.)
* For those who hadn't heard, our old man Oreo Cookie left us for Cat Heaven a couple weeks ago. We are now down to one cat and one dog. (We are running out of pets almost as fast as we are running out of children...)

Awww, so sad. I will miss sweet Oreo!
ReplyDeleteMe too. He was a good buddy.
DeleteDave and Leta have some kittens, so who knows what might be scampering about the house in a few more weeks.
I'm sorry to hear about Oreo, Martha :-( So sad when our furry babies leave us. Your stories about the care centre are funny.......or sad, whichever way you care to look at them. I volunteer at a care centre and can relate to your stories.
ReplyDeleteMarilyn from Canada
It is sad to say goodbye to Oreo, but easier knowing he's had a long and wonderful life. He'd been sick for so long that in many ways it was a relief.
DeleteYes, Marilyn, the events in Memory Care are both funny and sad all wrapped up into one. It helps to take a few sweet mental photographs home to savor. I'm in the right place.

I had heard the news of Oreo and it's always hard to lose a buddy...especially and old one.
ReplyDeleteBelly laughing at your new "story" at the home. You need to print your blog book, even if it's just for these stories.
I think of you this morning, as I have a pot of Hazelnut coffee brewing and some cinnamon crisps...Will you join me on the balcony and i'll share some of my Nursing Home stories and we can smile and laugh together and thank the Lord we are not there yet. HaHa. Hugs
I am right there with you!
DeleteThe coffee is splendid.

Hahaha! Gotta love it, eh Martha?
ReplyDeleteHanna will be back before you know it!
Enjoy your evening!
Cheers!
Linda :o)
She will be back but she's growing up and you never know how long they'll stay.
DeleteI hadn't heard about Oreo. Guess I havn't seen you in a few weeks. He was a nice, loving kitty. He was the one that always said hello to me when I came over. I'll miss him.
ReplyDeleteYour stories are hilarious!
*haven't
DeleteIt was what you feared, Rachel. He didn't move out of the driveway when one of my kids left. Yes, he was a nice kitty.
Delete:(
It's the residents that are funny.

So sorry about Oreo. Even though they are "only" animals, the affection we feel for them is real. I drove three daughters to the airport this morning, they are in Norway for ten days. We are down to six kids here now!!! It's different, and much quieter, although my 13 year old and 14 year old seem a little depressed....and your job sounds very interesting! I'm glad it's easier on you physically, but I imagine it takes quite a bit of patience on your part:)
ReplyDeleteThe job is going good. It does take a bit of patience, but I like it, and God has given me plenty of patience exercises in years past. I'm thanking Him for it now.
