L is for Late, but that shouldn't surprise you. I usually am late for ABC Wednesday. It's not for lack of trying, but these entries don't always come easy... However, while I was lying in bed last night, words began flowing into my mind.
I've been reading a book, a book by Max Lucado called "A Love Worth Giving" and it has left me thinking, thinking about how lacking I am in the love department. It's also suddenly provided me with an abundance of "L" words. Perhaps you are familiar with 1 Corinthians 13, the Bible's love chapter.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails.
Try putting your own name in the place of love; "Martha is patient, Martha is kind. Martha does not envy, she does not boast..." Well, that would be an out and out lie. The truth is I could use a lesson in loving. Don't get me wrong. I do try. I want to be longsuffering, I want to be kind, but I lose my patience all too quickly, and those are just the first things on the list!
I have come to the sad conclusion that Martha fails. Thankfully, there is Someone much bigger than me, Someone who offers me forgiveness and a chance to start new every morning. Not only that, but He doesn't leave me helpless, instead He offers me His love, and if He loves me, surely, with His help, I can love others. And you know, His name fits in there rather nicely.
(L is for late, lack, lying, last, Lucado, left, lie, longsuffering, lesson, list, leave, and last but not least, love.)

Well, from afar, you do seem to be a loving sort. Or you try, at LEAST, which would not apply to everyone.

Martha, what a great L post. I am frequently in the same predicament coming up with a post, but finally one comes to mind. One of the most beautiful scriptures in the bible.
ReplyDeleteAnn
Yes, Ann, it is a beautiful scripture, one to strive for even if we do fall so far short.
DeleteMartha, you ARE a good person but no one is perfect and the LORD will not judge you for your failings. We ALL fail but rest in the assurance of the LORD'S grace.
