A few days ago I called the apple farmer and left a message on his answering machine. I told him the little one in my care was asking to pick apples and would it be okay if we picked a small bag of apples in the orchard? I didn't hear anything for a couple of days. I thought maybe they weren't going to call back, but early this afternoon we got a phone call from Mrs. Fox. She said yes we could pick some apples and did we have an idea of where we wanted to pick them?
When I told her there were some back at the corner of our yard and the edge of the orchard, She told me they were Romes and they are good for eating and also for baking. She thanked us for asking permission because there are people who think nothing of just walking into an orchard and leaving without ever taking that into consideration.
So, before we took Hannah out horseback riding, Rocky and I took a walk back to the corner of the orchard and picked a few apples. It took us all of ten minutes. She was happy and I have checked another "to-do" off of my list. Tomorrow I'll have to make another pie, I guess. :0)
PS. See that house in the background? That's where Mr. and Mrs. Fox used to live. When we moved in here they were our next door neighbors.
A WONDERFUL ANNUAL CHRISTMAS EVENT

Those are magazine-worthy photos, Martha! The light and color and subjects are just perfect! A fun thing to get checked off your list!
ReplyDeleteI do love how the top photo turned out. Maybe it will have to go in a book for Rocky this Christmas.
DeleteSince Betsy has made her "Cat" Calendar, it would be nice to see a "Farm Children" Calendar from you.
ReplyDeleteI just love the photo's, and how gracious to get permission, and the nice response from your neighbor.
That sounds like a fun calendar idea!
DeleteAnd, thank you.
