Don't Look Back!

Yesterday I decided to sit down and write out a two week menu plan so that the pressure of deciding what to make for supper each night will be lessened. This is a routine that has me helped in the past so I thought it might be a good step toward relieving some of the stress I have been feeling.

I also decided to make it a priority to go the Ladies' prayer at church on Tuesday morning. Not only is it good for me to pray with the other women, but it will get me up and moving a little earlier in the morning. Once I am in Webster I will likely take the time to either go to the grocery store or do some visiting.

Neither of these two activities has anything to do with home schooling. That is an area I will probably continue to struggle with. (January always seems to be the hardest time...) We did make a visit to the library this morning, which may become a regular routine, and I found a CD-ROM with some math games on it. I haven't checked it out yet, maybe tomorrow...

  1. Good for you Martha! Let me know how your two week menu plan goes. Mine just failed...for now, so I need to tweak it a little I think!

Prayer meeting sounds good. What kinds of things do you do there/pray for??

  2. We pray for whatever the Lord lays on our hearts, our country and leaders, our friends and family, those who are sick or hurting in any way... all kinds of things. What is wonderful is to see so many of those prayers answered in a visible way. And then of course, we also thank Him for who He is and His goodness.

Dinner menus can be tricky, I try to think of meals we normally eat anyway and then wrote down only Monday through Friday. Deviating a little doesn't mean it failed, the menu is just a framework. It also needs to change with the seasons. Right now we're eating more pastas, cassaroles, and stews because its winter here. In the summer we will have more cookout and salad type meals.

(I have just been informed that my husband is gone with my van. I hope he comes back soon...)

  3. Sounds like a good plan. I can relate to your struggle with a routine as well.

  4. I have found that praying with other christians is such a blessing and gives me an added boost that I need in my life. I'm glad you can do that on Tuesday mornings. I often don't feel like going to small group because I have worked all day, but I think that Satan will do anything to keep us from "feeling like it" because he wants to keep us from those blessings, and from growth.

I can relate to the whole meal planning thing too. Dave and I were just discussing the need to make a menu so that I don't have to think so much and so we eat healthier meals.

  5. Maybe I should make a menu too.

Hey, look at that girl climb the wall! Boy, is she skinny...

  6. Martha, even though those things don't directly relate to homeschooling, I think they will ultimately be so helpful with schooling because they both add to your routine.

Is that Bethany climbing the wall? At first I thought it was and then I didn't, but after her skinny comment, I am wondering...

  7. I was wondering if that was Bethany as well.
Martha, just got news that services for Terry will be on Saturday at 2pm at Sodus.

  8. That is Bethany climbing the wall. It looked like so much fun, something I would have done when I was her age. I didn't think it would be a good idea for me to try, so I took pictures instead.

  10. Why is deciding what to have sooo hard? The planned menu worked well when the kids were still home. Now that we don't know more than a day (or sometimes hours!) who will be here dinner always seems to be a chore.

I think January is the worst month for most of us in CNY. The holidays are over and spring seems so very far away.

  11. I'm not sure why deciding "what's for dinner?" is so hard. And I always try to make an ample amount, just incase someone extra is here for supper. Last night we had Dave here (Leta was working) and also Joe. A few extra potatoes, some bread and butter, and a container of cottage cheese or applesauce make everything ok. :)

  12. I know the Lord will bless your effort to be at Tuesday Prayer Meeting, and the rest of your day will probably go better for doing it.
I find that true with my Tues night Bible Study with younger women, and my Wed. morning with the "older" gals ((my age))!
I don't think we can do anything more important that PRAY.
    Love of Love.

  13. HI Martha. I'm back and catching up on your posts. Sorry I was gone for so long. I'm afraid I'm not too much of a planner. But then I don't have to feed a big family either.
