The Deep Freeze

We are in the deep freeze. That means it's cold out. It also means we stay in. No making snowmen today. No venturing out to take pictures in the park. No orchard walks. It is winter like I remember when I was a little girl. We used to brave the arctic winds and then be compelled to find refuge by crawling under the bottom boughs of a neighbor's pine tree. They didn't typically provide much protection as there wasn't much room to really crawl under enough to take cover. We sit there for a few minutes, then crawl back out, and head for cover of another kind, usually home.

I did venture out to gather up my snowman accessories before they blew across the county. "Mr. Mustache" was missing his ball cap and I was afraid it might be all the way down in the drainage ditch or somewhere out in the the orchard. In actuality it had fallen down by his feet, which, by the way, do not exist.

I am saddened by the fact that my little troop of snow people has deteriorated so quickly, but friends are only around temporarily and I must accept that sad fact.  I must gather ideas for if and when it ever warms up enough to build more snow people. I wonder where my Calvin and Hobbes books are...

  1. It's a good weekend to stay inside...a forced bit of relaxation! The cold is reaching us tonight...the wind is pretty stiff out there!

    1. Single digit temperatures make for good snuggling nights. Or maybe putting one's feet up in front of the wood stove.

  2. Hi Martha....
Your snowmen look like they need to come inside....
    But...not by the wood stove!
It looks really cold there....a balmy 5*here in Florida...:o(
Not sure whether to laugh or cry!
    Enjoy Valentines Day!
    Cheers!

    1. We're getting a break today. It's all the way up to 23 degrees F. But, it's supposed to drop back down to the single digits again tonight. It's like I'm living in a giant snow globe! You should see it come down! I must purpose to enjoy it while it lasts. In another month the daffodils will be poking their heads up.

  3. Yeah...they look a little worse for the wear.

I've got a pot roast in the crockpot and I'm dressed in a feece pullover. I just drank a cup of coffee...I've got slippers on. The only thing I'm missing is a yellow or chocolate lab. Okay...I'd be all right with a black one too.

    Stay warm!

    1. I'm missing a lab at my feet too. Sofie's not even big enough to be a slipper on one foot! Oh, that's not very nice is it? Now she's looking at me.

Wish I had a roast in the crock pot...
