It's the gift buying and giving that typically make Christmas stressful, but there is other planning to be done too. This year, like the last one,we are getting two Christmases...
There are sure to be children, both big and small, here on Christmas Day. We'll enjoy some giving of gifts, some filling of stockings, and a bit of food. Maybe we'll even put a puzzle together, or maybe not. Perhaps there will be some carols, a Christmas movie, or the telling of the Nativity... I think maybe we'll eat tamales and cook up a pot of posole or green chile stew.
And then there is our BIG family Christmas gathering on Sunday, the 28th. My sisters will be here as well as our out of town son and his family. We'll have a houseful of folks. I've already decided not to try and make it to church that morning... I'm thinking we'll do a brunch, then have lasagna later in the afternoon. There will be a gift exchange (a bit above the typical white elephant stuff, I hope), maybe some games or the puzzle (if it didn't happen on Christmas), and later, toward evening, maybe a classic Christmas video, like A Muppet Christmas Carol.
Maybe this afternoon I'll bake a batch of snowball cookies, and then, if the sun shines this weekend, perhaps My Darling will lend a hand in cooking up a batch or two of toffee and candied walnuts.
Wishing You a Happy Thanksgiving.

Oh, Martha, that all sounds so delightful. The Mrs. and I were just talking about the Muppets, "A Christmas Carole," and how we needed to watch it!! Perhaps tonight now that you've reminded me!
ReplyDeleteThe Muppet Christmas Carol has to be our favorite around here. The kids would be disappointed if we watched it without them.
DeleteHey Martha. Were you able to read the recipe? Sounds like both plans are good. We will spend with Christmas Eve with Julie's family as she the only one that doesn't have inlaws to spend it with. The others do Christmas Eve with the other side of the family. Christmas Day at Michel's with the menu being a full Mexican Bar...Pulled pork, beef and chicken, rice and beans and all the fixins for tacos, burritos, etc. and a Dessert Table ~ All American...HaHa
ReplyDeleteYes, Wanda, I was and James printed it off as a full page. Thank you so much! We made four batches this afternoon (just finished) with only the tops coated in chocolate and walnuts. I sure hope it's enough!
DeleteYou Christmas Eve sounds like a wonderful plan. (As I am writing this I have a pretty gold cat sitting next to me. She keeps patting my arm, blinking lovingly, and purring... She's making herself hard to resist.) I think I'm going to make some tamales for Christmas Day. That might be as Mexican as I get this time. Ha ha!
