Graham Cracker Houses

It was a wild and noisy day full of children, toys, and candy. Bethany came over with Josh and Jake, Dave and Leta's kids were here, and we had Rocky too. It was Graham Cracker House Day.

Bethany, Hannah, and I constructed houses while the Curtain Climbers watched a video. We "glued" them (the houses, not the children) onto Chinet plates and left them to dry.

When we weren't looking, Jake helped himself to a house. "Nibble, nibble like a mouse, who is nibbling at my house?"

Thankfully, we'd made enough houses that we didn't have to worry about one missing.

The kids had a great time decorating their houses and eating candy.

Even Jacob thought it was fun.

    1. The day started off a little shaky with six kids running through the house, but it all turned out fun in the end. We even threw in a birthday present for Lucas who turns 5 today. (The 18th)

  3. What a great job you did! What kind of frosting did you use for the glue?

    1. Hi Christine! We used royal icing, but rather than use raw egg whites I bought meringue powder. It mixes up easy and keeps for days in the refrigerator. The kids had a blast!

  4. Excellent job!! I bet it was Royal Icing - if you use meringue powder instead of raw egg whites, it makes is safer for the kids in case anyone eats some of it.

We attended a "work" party many years ago where the hostess had already prepped the houses on small milk cartons and provided a kid friendly alternative for the kids to do while the adults talked upstairs.

    1. Hey! We were commenting at the same time. :)

This is our first year of getting the grandkids together to do houses. (Hannah had to drive to Webster in the morning to get Beth and the boys because Beth had a fender bender on Saturday...) Much fun!
