Weeds mostly. Those are the flowers I have this year. No brightly colored zinnias, no towering sunflowers. My daisies, every one of them, pulled a no-show. I didn't plant or buy marigolds and the beautiful hanging planter full of tiny petunias, a gift from my son for Mother's Day, dried out and died. I don't know how I ever let this happen. Perhaps I was distracted...

Dave and I bought Impatiens, which turned out to have Downy Mildew. The ones we planted last year had it too, and they all died, but I didn't realize it was that and just chalked it up to a bad summer. This year it spread to all of them, even the ones in pots on the front steps. We have NO flowers in front because of this. It's very sad. Next year and the year after we will plant fibrous begonias or lobelia because they have bright flowers, grow well in the shade, and are unharmed by the downy mildew now in our soil. We won't be able to plant impatienz for a while. I guess 33 states in the US have the downy mildew. Like you, we have an awful lot of weeds. I can't seem to get rid of them. :P
