B is for Brutal

B is for brutal, bitter, and blustery.

Two weeks ago, for the letter Z, I posted about zero. We're there again this week and it was below 0ºF this morning. (That's about -20ºC.) It's too cold to stand at the bus stop in my opinion, but then nobody asked me. It even looked cold out there this morning.Every time I took a breath my nose threatened to freeze shut. I call it Booger Freezing weather for a good reason.

The house, which usually stays warm and toasty in the winter, felt cold and drafty today. During the brutal, bitter, blustery days of midwinter, I am always reminded of my dad, his guitar, and the songs he'd sing when we were little girls. He was a country boy at heart. I don't know exactly where he learned the old folk songs he sang, I only know they're an unforgettable part of my childhood. I had to look this one up today. They don't sing it quite like Dad, but it'll do.

  1. I was warm today but tonight the house feels chilly. Subzero temps are bitter! Wow! No school for us today, though, and I doubt there will be any tomorrow! I think a cup of hot tea is in order!

    1. Hot tea is definitely in order, lots of it!
I wonder how long it will be until the water lines to my washing machine thaw out?

  2. Never mind...our furnace decided to take a vactation today! And can't be repaired until the morning!
We have the fire going, and an electric blanket on the bed!
Thank goodness it is not windy tonight.....

    1. Oh, dear! Why do furnaces always pick the coldest weather to break down?
I hope it gets fixed up quick.
Better sleep close to that boyfriend of yours!

  3. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Felt cold just looking at the photograph. We tend to live in our snug during the cold months and our Christmas present to each other was a new carpet. Loving it, mind you purple isn't a good colour with 3 hairy dogs! Still, that's what vacuum cleaners are for! lol!

    1. Today we have snow to go along with the cold. I think I'll live in my snug today too. :0)
I am always thankful for a vacuum cleaner, especially with pets and a wood stove.

  4. I love those old songs Dad used to sing, but this one doesn't stand out in my mind. I must not have heard him sing this one as much as some of the others.
Today it's going to be another one of those days. My patients ate dropping like flies, I was getting ready an hour later than usual because my 1st one had cancelled, and just got a phone call that my second one cancelled. This cold weather is getting expensive in more than one way. :\

    1. I remember all kinds of old songs and so wish I had recorded many more of them. I miss him so much right now. Winter does that to me.

    2. I miss him a ton too. Not a day goes by that I don't think about him. He was the best dad ever.

  6. Oh, I hate cold weather so I guess it's good I live in a temperate climate. But it's cold in our house today, too, as it's just above 0 centigrade but sunny. So I should be grateful it's not raining. Stay warm!

  8. It was 17 degrees when I picked up my grand girls from school today. I love old folk songs and I often wonder how they survived those winters in a sods homes.
