Z is for Zero

Z is for zero, below zero actually.

Baby, it's cold outside! It's most likely not news to most of you, because it's been in the news for several days now. We were warned of it's arrival. They call it a "Polar Vortex". The wind howled all night long and it sounded blizzard-like and wintery. The schools have been closed and we're staying inside, but for most of the morning the out of doors has been clear and sunny, at least where we live. I guess it's a tad different at the eastern ends of the Great Lakes.

The pipes to our kitchen sink are frozen. My Darling is attempt- ing to thaw out the mini- scule crawl space that houses the pipes. It's a slow process.

My photos are from Saturday when the temperatures were a much milder 33ºF. Not sure I'm up to venturing down to the lake today

  1. Brrrrr.....I can't even imagine weather that brutal.
Hope you get the pipes thawed and your husband too, for crawling in that small frozen crawl space.
    Beautiful photos too.

    1. I stayed in except to grab an armful of firewood. We'll soon be warming up again.

  2. Yeesh, part of the thruway was closed yesterday out your way.. It was cold in ALB, but we're far enough from the lake effect that our snow hasn't been awful.

    1. We didn't get the lake effect snow this time. One of the perks of being between Buffalo and Syracuse. Sometimes it misses us.

  3. Just listening to the wind howl makes you feel chilly, doesn't it? Brrr! But we're supposed to have a high of 31 tomorrow, so it's back to school! yay! ha.

You probably already know this, but if the temps get extremely low you can leave your kitchen cupboards open under your sink to keep your pipes warmer.

    Stay warm!

    1. Our kitchen pipes have never frozen before. We've had the cabinets open all day long, but it's too little too late.

    2. I think our kids are going back to school tomorrow too. That means I'll be headed out to the bus stop tomorrow morning. Maybe we'll wait in my van.

  4. Here in "Lotusland" (aka Vancouver BC) we're living a typical wintery winter - some days rain and some days around 0 - 5 Centingrade and beautifully sunny. The dog even went swimming in the ocean on Sunday! We do feel for all the rest of the world, though.
