Fishing and Minigolf

Blog traffic appears slow lately, but life goes on...

Since all NY state residents could fish NY state waters without a fishing license this past weekend, Hannah found some friends and they took off on a fishing trip. She caught the most fish, ten, and poor Ben caught nothing, but I think they all had a fun day. I only saw one photo from the excursion and subsequently stole it from Noah's Facebook account. (Ain't that a beauty?)

While the young'uns were off fishing, James and I took to the golf course. I didn't take my camera out of the van, but Parkside Whispering Pines is apparently the oldest miniature golf course in the USA. (This is where I encountered the carnivorous squirrel... )We had so much fun with the first game, in spite of the squirrel, that we played a second round. I won't tell you who won because I don't like to gloat.

Fishing Weather

If I were a real fisherman, this past week would have been wonderful! I'm pretty sure I'd have caught at least a bucketful in
this dark, cool, rainy weather.  I'd get out my favorite rain hat (if I had one...), put on my biggest raincoat (if I had one...), get out my most comfy folding chair (I have one...), and head down to the lake or one of those fine tributaries around here. There are plenty of worms laying about (there must be, though I haven't really looked...) and a fishing pole or two in the barn. But, I've not been out fishing, even though I think fishing in the rain seems the perfect plan. Shoot! I haven't even walked in the rain yet.

Home Again

We are home. We had an incredible week together with an entire log cabin lodge to ourselves until late Thursday evening. It was quiet, it was relaxing, and it was fun. I love having time alone with James. The Finger Lakes is a great location to run off to. There are restaurants, gift shops, wineries, pottery studios, cheese tastings, incredible views of the lakes, vineyards, glens and gorges, alpaca farms, boat launches, parks, trails, museums, and seemingly no end of Bed and Breakfasts.

We stayed at "Gone With the Wind Bed and Breakfast- The Sequel" (which meant we were in the log cabin lodge rather than the Stone House). There are five rooms in the lodge and another five in the Stone House. We were blessed to have the lodge all to ourselves the first four nights of our stay, and then blessed with company the last two nights. Several mornings we were the only breakfast guests as well, a perk of staying early in the week. Linda lent us the movie "Gone With the Wind" Tuesday or Wednesday night. We watched all four hours and didn't get into bed until after midnight. Now we know all about Scarlett O'Hara and Rhett Butler.

Yes, I did go fishing and found it to be fun too. Honestly, the first fish I caught wasn't much fun. He was just a little guy and he swallowed the hook. He was already bleeding when I pulled him up and didn't look too healthy when James finally got the hook out of him and put him back in the lake. I decided not to give up that easy and try again. The next fish weren't near as greedy. I think I could find fishing to be a lot of fun if only I can keep my eye on the bobber. Perhaps a pair of sunglasses and a fishing hat are in order.

Fishing

I think I shall take up fishing and maybe even learn to love it. When I was a little girl, I asked my daddy to take me fishing, but he never got around to it and I never learned to love it like my husband does. The other day I came across this photo of my sweet nephew "in his element" (according to his daddy) and decided that maybe I should give it a shot. Darius says it's not too late. Maybe it's time to get my first fishing license.
