They say being a CNA is the hardest job in a nursing home. They also say "whatever doesn't kill you will make you stronger." I don't suppose that is true in every circumstance, but I guess it probably is in a general sense. (I found the photo amusing. ha ha!) I'll say one thing about doing this job, it is hard, and as it gets easier, it's going to get harder. Got to keep my eye on the goal, and probably go to bed earlier.
This week I'm working five eight hour days and coming home tired. Next week I work three twelve hour days; Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. I can hardly wait to find out how that feels. It probably won't kill me... :0)

You can do it! But you'll have to take care of yourself...early to bed, eat right, lots of water...and coffee. ha.
ReplyDeleteSpencer, strangely enough, loves that Kelly Clarkson song and blasts it on his laptop. haha.
Lots of coffee, yes, especially in the morning.
DeleteSpencer and I could be great friends, even if I've never heard the song. (Maybe I'll look it up tomorrow.)

My hat is off to you dear Martha. Can't imagine those long hours. Take Betsy's advice...take care of Martha.
ReplyDeleteIf this doesn't work out, I "might" have a Plan B.
DeleteI will try to take care of myself.
Now it's time for bed.

Oh....the plot thickens!
DeleteTake care!
I can't imagine being on my feet for that long! I hope your shoes prove to be nice and comfy. Sometimes when it's busy you don't notice so much, but when you get home, ouch. Take time to rest and put those feet up when you get home!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm putting my feet up, Della.
DeleteMy legs are tired, but not quite as tired as they were yesterday. It's "only" 8 hours a day this week. I'm not quite sure how it will be when I add another four hours into my work day. Good thing there are great rewards.

Just want to share with you, who came up with the idea 12 hour shifts are good for the workers or the patients.
ReplyDeleteThe business side of these medical places. Thats a whole shift of 8 hrs. they don't have to pay employees or benefits for them!!!...There is no way, with a family I could have done a 12 hr. shift...my family was important to me, and at least with a shorter shift, one had a little more time at either end of the day to spend with the family.....12 hrs leaves little time for all the little extras ....it takes a whole day just to recover from 3 days of 12 hour shifts. This was the main pet peeve I had with the medical profession and it caused me to leave and find other work where I could have more normal family time....I'm 68 now...mm, vancouver,wa.
My dear Vancouver, Wa. friend, there is a dark side to every business and the medical profession has many. I'm not thrilled with 12 hour days and know I never could have done it previous to now. With the strength of God on my side, I can. And yes, I'm already thinking it will take a day to recover from those 3 days in a row. Maybe I'll have to shake them up a littler later on.
