Out for a Visit

Rachel and I missed our visit with Tim on Monday. Apparently he had a bad cough and they had just put him on antibiotics. Not only that but he was having great difficulty walking. He does a lot of shuffling and his feet often seem "stuck" to the ground. It's kind of sad because he used to be so hard to slow down and now he can hardly walk...

We didn't talk to any of the workers ahead of the visit as no one was answering the phone there. As we got out of the car the visiting nurse was just pulling in. It was nice to talk to someone who seemed genuinely concerned for his condition. Someone who would try to answer a few of our questions. It seems he is currently being weaned off some of the psych drug he has been given, a few of them in very high doses.

We had a good visit and a pleasant ride through the countryside. He ate the snacks Rachel had packed and never cried or complained. We listened to a CD of Dad playing on the car stereo and sang along here and there. On the way back we stopped at Wendy's for the traditional Frosty. The ride was peaceful and our minds were set at ease over our brother's well being. It was a good afternoon.

This morning, while Emily and I waited for the bus, I took some flower photos. Looks like I do have something beside daffodils. A lonely hyacinth. And my daffodils? They wear all different kinds of clothes. Aren't they pretty?

    1. I think he was glad to see us and he didn't mind that I went in the house to get him instead of Rachel.

    1. That is Barn 3. It's where we keep the lawn tractor, bikes, and whatever else ends up in there. Hannah and I would love to put a horse or two underneath the shed part. It could happen...

    1. Yes, Judi, it is.
I had a fee baby sized Frosty with the adoption key tag I bought two months ago.

  4. Thank you for coming with me on a day that isn't quite as easy for you to get out. I'm so glad you were there too to hear what the nurse said. Even though he seemed a little tired, and admitted it when I asked him, he seemed happy and comfortable and my mind is at rest. :)

    1. I was relieved to go too, Rachel, and was super glad to have someone to talk to a little bit. Maybe Tim actually liked that you were talking to her. He didn't seem agitated at all yesterday.

  5. What good sisters. I know Tim must look forward to your visits and Wendy's. Don and I made two Wendy stops on the trip for those little frosties. I had a good visit with Elizabeth today. She is such a treasure for me. Your flowers, stunning. Like Barn 3 too.

    1. The nurse seems to think it might be drug related, Priscilla. I did ask someone about it not long ago and they said they were looking into it. Hopefully they are. I'd hate to see him fall.

  7. This happened last year, I remember it very clearly. They said it was drug related then too and took him off of some meds, (and he was so much better after) but then for some reason, before we know it, he's back on them. I don't know why this happens. Do we have any say in the amount of psych drugs they want to give him? It seems like we should be notified when they want to put him on more stuff. :P

  8. I know we don't live with him, so we can't possibly know what he acts like all the time, but the nurse seemed confused about what "behaviors they're trying to control". Also, remember the way he acted when he said he was sad, Martha? If he does that at home when he's sad, but can't tell anyone what's going on, they may think he's just being crazy and think he needs more medicine. I REALLY want to get him communicating!
