P is for P's and Q is for Q's, but no one is really sure what P or Q stands for. I think it makes a great way to catch up on two weeks worth of ABC Wednesdays.
Whenever I have heard the expression, "Mind your P's and Q's" it's always appeared to be a reference to having good behavior, kind of like saying, "Mind your manners." At any rate, it's a warning to pay attention to what you're supposed to be doing and whether or not it has anything to do with a P or Q is anybody's guess.

I always thought it to mean say your please's and thank Q's...but then I googled it...no one knows really, but it was fun reading all the different things it could possibly mean.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little it always reminded me of peas and carrots, but that doesn't make any sense at all!

Well that is very interesting! I wonder who started that silly phrase! ha.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very good question. It is rather silly, isn't it?
DeleteWhen we visited the East Coast we were told it stood for Pints and Quarts..and in the Pub..if you drank too much and began to cause trouble...you were told to mind your P's and Q's. Back from my Blog Break... Yeah.
ReplyDeleteI read all kinds of things, but nobody seems to know for certain. I think it's come to mean "Behave yourself!"

P's and Q's... pqbd... I thought it had to do with learning how to write your letters and how the p's and q's were so easy to mix up, you must be careful to write them properly. "Joshua, mind your p's and q's!"
ReplyDeleteYes, that's on the list of possibilities too. So many ideas, yet no one knows for sure where it all started.
