Hanging Out With the Hubby

Yesterday I hung out with my favorite husband. We left church early, changed our clothes, and headed south, mostly because north isn't much of an option... ha ha!

Our fickle weather, which left us uncomfortably cold inside our house in the morning, later warmed up our vehicle rather nicely, too nicely. Between the sunshine outside of the van and the almost too warm inside of the van, we soon became sleepy and decided to find a park and take a quick nap. Sometimes that's better than falling asleep at the wheel. Our rest was cut short by an amateur open-air guitarist and her maraca playing partner, so we deiced to move along and find some lunch and a cup or two of coffee.

After sitting spell in Denny's we drove south some more and ended up driving around Keuka Lake. It is currently our favorite Finger Lake and we end up driving it's shoreline again and again. There some pretty great wineries on the hills between the lakes and sometimes we find ourselves popping in at one or another for a little taste testing. Either way, whether we stop in the vineyards or just keep driving, the hills of New York State's Finger Lakes are a beautiful place to be.

One of my summertime plans is to catch a glimpse of as many Finger Lakes as possible. Apparently there are eleven with a couple that are sometimes included and other times excluded from the club. There are also a myriad of small "puddle-sized" lakes as well. Many of them are within easy driving distance and the shores are dotted with small parks and private cottages. I've lived here my entire life (minus 6 months in New Mexico) and still can't name all the Finger Lakes, however, I do have my favorites and I know them by name.

    1. I always have to Google "Finger Lakes" otherwise I want to make there be five, like a hand or the Great Lakes (which I can name, by the way). I can't even imagine living in a place where there aren't any lakes.

  3. A date with your favorite hubby is so much better than that not so favorite one. Sounds like a lovely ride. I would love a nap in a park.

  4. Seneca, Cayuga, Owasco, Skaneatles, (Oneida, Onondaga not sure if these count). Then heading west, Keuka, Canandaigua, Honeoye, Hemlock, Canadice, Conesus. This is where I grew up! We lived near Canandaigua, my uncle lived on Owasco for nearly 10 years ( the only one I can say I have swam across ( much younger then). Have boated on at least 6 of them. Great wineries all throughout. Glad to hear you enjoyed the day.

    1. You are good! It's those smaller lakes that get me confused. I've got Cayuga, Seneca, Keuka, and Canandaigua. You and I have got to meet up again soon.

  5. Yes, the sick part is that I can name (and correctly spell) all of those, plus provide approximate depth, width and length; and name the villages/towns at both ends...

Maybe we need a Finger Lakes adventure next!!

    2. And your hubby has a boat too. Maybe this year I can cross "boat ride" off my list...

    3. Just need to pick which lake and the perfect day for weather! We keep it on Cayuga, but we can make it to Geneva(Seneca), Auburn(Owasco), Canandaigua(same), or maybe Keuka(have not been there recently, depends on launch site).

  6. Owasco Lake is wider than my ten year old self thought it would be. A cousin and I took it into our foolish heads to row across it in an old wooden rowboat, no life preservers...we survived. But the way back seemed sooooo long.

    1. I have no recollection of visiting Owasco Lake. Must go there. Anybody have an old wooden rowboat and some life preservers?

  7. We have boated on Owasco Lake many times. My cousins would water ski but my job was the spotter. Taught sailing at the girl scout camp two summers. We took our family boat there and floated and swam one lazy Saturday. A bit later we heard bagpipes and a boat came in with a bagpiper and the bride for a wedding at Casowasco (chruch camp near south end). Pretty fun surprise.
